In 1970 at the age of 18 I wrote my first goal after reading the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. Here is what I wrote for my goal. "In 20 years I will accumulate 1 million dollars by investing in real estate in various ways and helping others in real estate in whatever way I can." Below is the updated version of the book I read back in 1970 before coming up with the goal I set for myself. Both books are very similar. The 1st book is a little larger and has larger print. I'm not telling you need to buy this book or buy it from me. You do need to set a Goal and write it down. This should be your 1st step. There are plenty of other books that talk about goal setting. I have just put the all time classic "Think and Grow Rich" here because it is the one I read.
The goal I set in 1970 to have 1 million dollars in 20 years did not come to pass in 1990 on the date I had set. In fact by 1990 I had all but forgotten about this goal I had set. I had lost direction and sorta felt like a failure. Then my memory of my goal came back to me. It had been about 17 years since I really thought about goal setting. I got out my pencil and paper and wrote down my original goal that I had made back in 1970 and got started again. Yes it is was1990 when I got really started back in real estate. This is the height of the bad economy here in Louisiana. Louisiana's bad years came after the rest of the nation had started turning around. The oil got us thru the bad years only to go bust around 1889. I had no money but my dad was willing to loan me $10,000 to put as a down payment on a commercial building that I wanted to buy. The building was the Old Post Office in Denham Springs, Louisiana. It had lied vacant for about 3 years after the US Post Office moved out. I was in the right place at the right time when I put in an offer on this 4500 sq ft building. They were asking somewhere around $90,000 but took my offer of $50,000. Boy was I ever surprised. I will be adding more in the future as I develop this website.
